Richie’s shock pregnancy may save her from jail (The West Australian)(Pregnancy News)

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Just days before her DUI trial begins on July 11, comes news that Nicole Richie is pregnant - a condition that may save her from jail. And In Touch Weekly says the couple are hard at work planning a summer wedding. Ritchieâs legal troubles stem from a December incident during which she was busted driving the wrong way down an LA freeway. If found guilty, she would ordinarily get a minimum of five days - and a maximum of up to 12 months - in jail. Test to cut IVF twin risk (Times Online)- About: Pregnancy News

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Women having IVF may be able to eliminate their chances of having a hazardous multiple pregnancy with a new test that can predict which embryos are likely to form identical twins. Stillbirth and death within the first week of life are four times more common in twins and seven times more common in triplets than in singletons, while the incidence of cerebral palsy is five times higher for twins and 18 times higher for triplets. A team led by Dianne Payne, of the Mio Fertility Clinic in Yonago, Japan, created time-lapse photographs of 33 embryos as they developed in culture, 26 of which formed blastocysts. Ms Payne said that while the results are preliminary, they suggest it should be possible to spot embryos that are developing into identical twins before they are moved to the womb.
