Topic: Pregnancy News - Probe into teenage pregnancy rate (BBC News)

Authorities have begun investigating why the teenage pregnancy rate is so high in two Dorset towns and what can be done to address the growing problem. In Weymouth and Portland 49 out of every 1,000 15 to 17 year olds become pregnant. The county average is 28 out of 1,000, and the national average is 42. A Weymouth & Portland Borough Council committee is examining what support is available to vulnerable teenagers and challenges facing health providers. One drawback throughout prgnancy is that the woman’s immune system may go down becuase so much of her body’s energy is going towards the baby growing inside her. The good nes is that if you happen to get sick your immune system will share immunity with the baby inside, so that your baby will come out immune to any strain of cold or flu you might get while pregnant! read more
