Topic: Pregnancy News - J.Lo Confirms Pregnancy … Finally (Zap2It)

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Jennifer Lopez has spilled the worst-kept secret since, well, Christina Aguilera’s pregnancy revelation of a few days ago. Although the news itself wasn’t a huge surprise (the media had been eyeing about her bump for a while, and even her designer had inadvertently let slip the happy news) her hubby was shocked at her decision to finally speak up. Lopez, 38, and Anthony, 39, were married on June 5, 2004, just four days after his divorce to his first wife, Miss Universe Dayanara Torres, was finalized. She’s also known for her films that include “Selena,” “The Cell,” “The Wedding Planner,” “Gigli,” “Shall We Dance,” “Monster-in-Law” and “El Cantante,” in which Anthony stars as salsa king Hector Lavoe. read more

Kaiser settles pregnancy discrimination lawsuit (Honolulu Advertiser)(Pregnancy News)

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

The EEOC filed the lawsuit in September 2005 alleging Kaiser had discriminated against a pregnant labor and delivery nurse. It alleged that a supervisor at Kaiser’s Wailuku facility discriminated against Margaret McIlroy, who had accepted a supervisory nursing position at the clinic in seeking a transfer from Kaiser in Southern California. The agency’s lawsuit alleged McIlroy, 44 at the time, received a voice mail withdrawing the job offer less than 24 hours after she disclosed she was pregnant. The EEOC said Kaiser also agreed to change its discrimination policies and training programs to expressly prohibit pregnancy discrimination and to provide the EEOC with annual reports detailing its investigation and resolution of internal complaints about pregnancy discrimination in Hawaii. The EEOC said McIlroy and Kaiser had a separate confidential settlement. The EEOC’s Honolulu office said pregnancy discrimination continues to be a problem locally and nationally and that it had settled another pregnancy bias suit in August against Chaminade University. read more

Maternal alcohol drinking during pregnancy appears to be associated with conduct problems in children, independently of other risk factors, according to a report in the November issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. Previous research has linked maternal drinking during pregnancy to several problems in offspring, including conduct problems, criminal behavior, attention and impulsivity problems and alcohol disorders, according to background information in the article. For each additional day per week that mothers drank alcohol during pregnancy, their children had an increase in conduct problems. Children whose mothers drank alcohol during pregnancy also had more attention and impulsivity problems than unrelated children whose mothers did not drink. read more
