New research suggests life-threatening peanut allergies are affecting kids at earlier ages than ever before. Duke University Medical Center indicates children as young as 12 months old are being diagnosed with allergies. The American Academy of Pediatrics cautions parents against giving their child peanuts before the age of 3, if they have a strong family history of allergies. The drug's maker disputes the latest research saying its studies showed no increase in spine or hip fractures. One researcher said while the levels of radiation exposure are low with these tests, they do carry a slight risk to the fetus. According to the study, an abdominal ultrasound, a routine exam performed during pregnancy, does not expose the patient to ionizing radiation, which can cause cell damage. read more
