WASHINGTON — A study that an Ohio University postdoctoral student collaborated on finds that adolescent pregnancy was an issue even for the dinosaurs. The researchers report that a type of tissue present in modern birds when they’re developing eggs has turned up in three dinosaur fossils. The dinosaurs were ages 8, 10 and 18, indicating they reached sexual maturity earlier than previously thought. He worked with another Berkeley graduate student, Sarah Werning, who says knowing more about dinosaurs’ reproductive maturity opens up dinosaur research in other, related areas. read more

Sydney - Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman is expecting a child with country-crooner husband and fellow Australian Keith Urban. Kidman’s publicist Wendy Day confirmed the pregnancy Tuesday after weeks of tabloid speculation about a “baby bump” that photographers said the 40-year-old was sporting during the Christmas holidays in her Sydney hometown. Kidman has two adopted children, Connor and Isabella, from her 10- year marriage to fellow Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise. They live most of the time with former husband Tom Cruise and his current wife, Katie Holmes. Last year, Kidman revealed she had an ectopic pregnancy at the beginning of her marriage to Cruise and miscarried around the time the union broke up in 2001. Kidman, who met Urban in January 2005 in the United States and married him 18 months later in Sydney, has been very public about her desire to have a baby with Urban, who last year spent time in treatment for alcoholism. read more

The 40-year-old actress and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, “are expecting a baby,” publicist Catherine Olim said Monday in a brief statement. Kidman is currently at home in Sydney, Australia, where she has been working on Baz Luhrmann’s epic romance, “Australia. Kidman was due to start filming for director Stephen Daldry’s post-World War II drama “The Reader” later this month but her Australian publicist Wendy Day said she understands Kidman has had to withdraw from the film because of the pregnancy. Television footage in Australia on Tuesday showed reporters congratulating Kidman and Urban. Kidman recently confided to Vanity Fair that she had a miscarriage early on in her relationship with Cruise, leading them to adopt. read more
