The Health Department’s home-visiting program, part of the Nurse-Family Partnership, has been expanded to serve an additional 1,000 first-time mothers and their infants in more areas of Brooklyn. Under the program, nurses make weekly or bimonthly home visits during pregnancy and through the child’s second birthday, assisting new mothers with all aspects of motherhood. The expansion sites will serve East New York, Brooklyn Heights, downtown Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Coney Island, Brighton Beach, Bensonhurst, Gravesend and Seagate. In addition to the increase, the program allows a more flexible use of program funds and has fewer reporting requirements.
