Alan Dimich and his wife Karla were in their first year of marriage when doctors discovered Karla had breast cancer. He says changes due to cancer may affect the baby, but not the cancer itself. Because there are so many individual variables surrounding breast cancer and pregnancy, experts find it difficult to study. Komen for the Cure will celebrate local breast cancer survivors and co-survivors at its First Annual Survivor Celebration Luncheon. The event will feature Kelly Corrigan, author of “The Middle Place,” who will share the story of her battle with breast cancer and a guest speaker from the National Susan G. Komen for the Cure's office who will address survivorship concerns and life after breast cancer. read more

(Pregnancy News) Police say woman uses pregnancy in purse snatching (Hudson Sun)

A woman suspected of using her pregnancy last fall to steal credit cards from customers at area beauty parlors was arrested over the weekend in New Hampshire, police said. Cantin used two stolen credit cards from the Cuttery heist at a Hudson Shell station, Hannaford’s in Hudson, CVS in Framingham, and Stop & Shop in Framingham, according to court documents. Police knocked on her door in the foothills of the White Mountains on Friday morning and Cantin, aware of the impending charges, surrendered without incident, said True. The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Department picked her up Saturday and dropped her off at the Hudson police station, which is where she was held until her arraignment yesterday in Marlborough District Court. She faces allegations of larceny over $250, larceny under $250, forgery of a check, credit card larceny, and credit card fraud. read more

Australian scientists have found that a woman’s memory may be impaired for at least a year after giving birth although the effects are minor and mainly concern unfamiliar or demanding tasks. Dr Henry and co-investigator Professor Peter Rendell, of the Australian Catholic University, compared the memory performances of more than 1,000 pregnant women, mothers and healthy non-pregnant females involved in 14 studies around the world. They found that pregnant women were considerably impaired on some, but not all, measures of memory. The scientists found that women experienced most difficulty with memory tasks that relied on “executive cognitive control,” i. According to Dr Henry, scientists still did not understand why a woman’s memory should be impaired at such an important time, but they suspected lifestyle factors played a role. read more
