His mother, Sara Q - the name she uses in the all-female bluegrass band Nobody’s Darlin’ - played her mandolin during her pregnancy, the instrument leaning against her side. Sean Quashnie, Jackson’s father, held his son Friday afternoon, rocking gently back and forth, while listening to his wife and her band mates play a set at the Salt River Bluegrass Festival south of Oil City in Midland County. Jackson’s first festival was last year at Wheatland and the family plans on going to that festival in Mecosta County again this September, Sean said. Sara Q and the other members of Nobody’s Darlin’ started playing together as a “pet project,” Sean said, with most of the women taking on instruments that they didn’t normally play.
