Working with local middle schools, the YMCA hopes to educate students about the importance of decision-making through its Teen Pregnancy Prevention/Abstinence Health Education program. The other program in the education curriculum, the health department’s Family Planning program, reaches out to high school students. In response to its high teen pregnancy rates, the Garrett County Health Department began a Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition in 1996.
